Ralston Family Foundation donates $10M to SA zoo expansion

SAN ANTONIO – The Ralston Family Charitable Foundation has donated $10 million to the San Antonio Zoo expansion. The donation is the largest ever in the 109-year history of the midtown attraction.

The event center will be named The Ralston in recognition of the gift.

The gift will help fund the first phase of the zoo’s expansion and improvements plan, which includes a new front entry plaza, as well as an event center and gorilla habitat.

The first phase of the zoo expansion is expected to cost roughly $67 million.

Event center guests will overlook a planned Congo Falls gorilla habitat, lions in Big Cat Valley, and the zoo’s African Savanna area. A 60-foot tower will allow gorillas to move from Congo Falls into The Ralston where they can interact with event guests.

Funds raised through events at The Ralston will help support other zoo initiatives.
