WACO – Local developer Peter Ellis is aiming to bring H-E-B to 1726 Austin Ave. in downtown.
The two-story building that housed one of the city’s first H-E-Bs in 1950 covers 38,740 sf. The grocery store will consume most of the building, but Ellis is offering as much as 10,000 sf for lease.
Ellis is pursuing $1.1 million in aid from the newly created Tax Increment Financing Zone No. 4.
Waco’s city manager said TIF is recommending an award of $486,000. However, the city is also looking into using federal American Rescue Plan Act funds.
If all goes smoothly, the store will open in late 2024.
