Historic Monte Vista property revitalized

MONTE VISTA – Headwall Investments is nearing completion on its renovation of a longstanding Monte Vista property.

The building on 2101 McCullough Ave. was built in 1928. It was initially a furniture business, then Allen’s Flowers & Gifts Inc. However, when Headwall purchased it in 2021, the building was vacant.

The redeveloped space, now called The Allen, will become an office building that will serve in part as Headwall’s headquarters. Eighty percent of the square footage has already been preleased.

The developer took out a loan from Broadway Bank, received federal and state Historical Rehabilitation Tax Credits, Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing, federal solar tax credits, and tax and permit fee abatements from the City of San Antonio, all for the renovation costs.

Studio8 Architects is the designer. Pape-Dawson Engineers and Guido Construction worked on the build team, and Big Sun Solar provided solar panels. JLL is handling the leasing.

Construction on The Allen is expected to be finished later this fall.
