Big Sun Solar’s largest project yet comes to fruition in Seguin

SEGUIN – Big Sun Solar has partnered with Vitesco Technologies and Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative (GVEC) on Big Sun’s largest solar project in company history.

The company will build, own, and operate a 4,800-panel, 2.6-megawatt, DC-rated solar project adjacent to Vitesco’s manufacturing facility in Seguin.

The panels will generate roughly 4,800 megawatt hours per year, which is equivalent to removing nearly 600 cars from the road for a year.

The 12-acre project is Vitesco’s largest North American solar project and will meet 13 percent of the company’s energy needs, taking it one step closer to achieving its goal of being completely climate neutral by 2040.

Vitesco, a Germany-based developer and manufacturer of powertrain technologies, has operated for more than 50 years in Seguin. As part of the agreement, Vitesco will purchase the electricity generated by the solar project from GVEC.

Big Sun said the Seguin project will be completed and commissioned by the end of 2023.
