Lone Star Constructors selected to head I-35 NEX South Project

SAN ANTONIO – Lone Star Constructors have been selected by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) as the design, construction, and capital maintenance contractor for the I-35 Northeast Expansion South Project.

This section of the project consists of Petroleum Dr. to I-410 South, a portion of I-410 South from I-35/I-410 South Interchange to just north of Seguin Rd./FM 78.

The company expects to recognize the approximately $700 million contract in second quarter 2023.

A statement by Fluor Corporation, one of the companies behind the Lone Star joint venture, says the I-35 NEX South Project will improve one of the most congested corridors in the state. It sees over 140,000 vehicles pass through per day.

The company said the project includes the design and construction of approximately four miles of elevated lanes with corresponding interchanges and transitions at each end of the project.

It also includes a five-year capital maintenance term with options for two additional five-year terms.
