$30M attraction to be added to San Antonio Zoo

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Zoo is set to enter the next phase of its expansion plan with the construction of Congo Falls.

The $30 million attraction will have a new gorilla habitat in the northwest corner of the park near Hildebrand Ave. and US 281.

Congo Falls will have a one-of-a-kind 60-ft gorilla tower that will connect it with The Ralston, a $15 million events center.

The upgrades will be funded in part by a $10 million contribution from the Ralston Charitable Trust and $5 million from the Mays Family Foundation.

The new gorilla habitat and The Ralston will open in the second half of this year.

The zoo is advancing plans for additional projects, including an expansion of its savanna habitat and construction of Spekboom Lodge, which will be rentable to guests wanting an overnight experience. The area will also include a two-story barn that will serve as an indoor viewing area for a larger giraffe population.
