San Antonio's Zarzamora St. to make pedestrian-friendly improvements this year

SAN ANTONIO – The city’s public works department is currently bidding out a contract worth about $5.4 million to make pedestrian improvements to Zarzamora St. from the intersection of Fredericksburg Rd. to SW Military Dr.

TxDOT is funding $3.6 million, the city is paying $1.6 million, and VIA is putting in $500,000.

The scope of work includes new sidewalks, installing updated signage and traffic signals, and modifying driveways. Some outside lanes will be converted to bus-only lanes. Because it’s a pedestrian-focused project, there should be minimal street closures.

Work is slated to begin this summer and should wrap up in a year.
