AUSTIN – A land swap that would bring dozens of acres of new parkland to the city’s east side is set to move ahead more than two years after voters first authorized the exchange.
The Austin Parks and Recreation Department’s nine-acre Central Maintenance Complex at 2525 S. Lakeshore Blvd. would be exchanged for about 50 acres to be converted into parkland near US 183.
The civic land deal is lined up with Austin-based tech company Oracle.
A replacement maintenance complex is underway at Bolm District Park, as well as the restoration of a maintenance area at Fiesta Gardens on Lady Bird Lake.
The replacement facility, to be provided by Oracle, could have more than 68,000 sf of storage and workspaces, a nearly 20,000-sf administration building, and an eight-acre fueling center.
The land was most recently appraised at $1.56 million, and Oracle will pay at least $23.5 million for design and construction of the replacement, plus $1 million for the Fiesta Gardens project.
