ROUND ROCK – The ISD has approved a lease for 2.2 acres on the Austin Community College-Round Rock Campus and the design and construction of the new Round Rock Early College High School.
The current Early College school is in multiple portable classrooms on the property. This will be the first phase of the campus.
The district will lease the property from ACC for 50 years with a price tag of $6 million to be paid over a 20-year period at a 4 percent annual interest rate.
Officials said construction will begin after proper licensing is attained in six to nine months, with construction expected to take 16 months.
In 2018, voters passed a bond that allocated $275.4 million for projects to address the district’s growth. The district budgeted $15 million of this for the ECHS campus. However, the new estimated cost of the campus has more than doubled to $33.9 million.
