DFW leads nation in construction job growth

DALLAS – The market added more than 10,000 construction jobs in March, the biggest such gain in the country, according to the Associated General Contractors of America.

Local construction jobs were up about 7 percent from a year ago, even as the COVID-19 pandemic shut down most parts of the local economy.

Austin, Houston, and San Antonio also had construction job increases.

Laredo, along with Lake Charles, La., had the largest percentage loss in construction employment in March (19 percent).

Nationwide, almost 70 percent of construction firms reported in an April 20-23 survey that projects have been canceled or delayed because of the pandemic.
