DALLAS – Retail real estate occupancy broke its previous record this past year with 95.2 percent of space leased according to Weitzman.
With the DFW population topping eight million in 2023, demand for retailers increased. Occupancy is expected to remain at 95.8 percent this year.
Neighborhood centers and unanchored retail spaces have the highest occupancy in their history with 94.4 percent leased. Grocery-anchored community centers were at 96.2 percent.
The previous retail occupancy record was set in 1981 with 94.8 percent.
Austin had a retail occupancy rate of 96.8 percent, Houston 95.4 percent, and San Antonio 95 percent.
