AUSTIN – The city is using $1.6 billion in hotel occupancy tax and other funding to replace its 30-year-old convention center with a new structure nearly double its size spanning more than 700,000 sf, 360,000 sf of that being exhibition space.
San Antonio-based Project Control of Texas Inc. has signed a $30 million contract with the city to oversee planning and construction of the new convention center.
Work is slated to begin in 2025 and won’t be completed until 2029.
