ROUND ROCK – Las Vegas-based Switch Inc. has begun work on its second data center on 32.5 acres north of Louis Henna Blvd. and Greenlawn Blvd.
The company’s first center, known as “The Rock,” is currently being built on 36 acres and will sprawl 1.5 million sf east of South Mays St. and north of Dell Way.
Site plans show the new space would have an electrical substation, communications tower, and parking spaces, all enclosed by a perimeter wall.
A ten-year agreement with the city provides the opportunity to earn back 50 percent of the sales tax revenue it generates starting in 2027. The company is required to make an $80 million investment by 2026.
However, the original facility must have a minimum of 150,000 sf and create at least 15 jobs. It is estimated that roughly $80 million in taxable sales would generate $1.2 million in net revenue for the city.
