SAN ANTONIO – A plan to establish a 188-acre arboretum on the city’s south side is one step closer to becoming reality.
Bexar County Commissioners voted to pay out $7.3 million in bond funds to the project, $2 million of which would be used to purchase the Republic Golf Club. Last year, the Brooks Development Authority awarded the group $1 million to help with the golf course purchase.
The Arboretum San Antonio team released a request for qualifications for master-planning services. Applications for a landscape designer are also being evaluated.
Design work is expected to start in late 2024 with the first phase finished in 2025.
