CASTROVILLE – Rainbow Theater opened in 1943 and showed its last films nearly 50 years ago. Thanks to an effort by community leaders, the Rainbow Theater has undergone an extensive renovation and reopened July 15.
The theater still has its original neon sign, but now it also has new seating, audio, and visual systems.
Rainbow will not only show movies but host live music concerts and events.
The renovations have been handled by The Elsass group, more than 50 families working to restore the city. The investor group has bought ten downtown buildings in addition to the theater.
One of the Elsass’ end goals is to improve the town’s economy through tourism. One member of the Elsass group said, “Having an entertainment venue like this together with the restaurants and bars allows someone to have a full day in Castroville rather than just a few hours.”
