New affordable housing coming to Coronado Hills

AUSTIN – Cairn Point, a 150-unit affordable housing community, is being developed in the Coronado Hills neighborhood by the Austin Housing Finance Corp. (AHFC), Caritas of Austin, and The Vecino Group.

Units will average 502 sf, and the entire four-story building will be 100,000 sf.

One-hundred twenty-seven of the units will be reserved for households earning at or below 50 percent of the median family income (MFI), and 23 will be for households at or below 30 percent MFI.

Costing $40 million, the building will rise on 2.4 acres at 7205 Cameron Rd. Construction begins early this fall and could be completed by the middle of 2025.

The project received $6 million in Rental Housing Development Assistance funding from AHFC, $6 million from Travis County, and 100 project-based local housing vouchers provided by AHFC and the Housing Authority of the City of Austin.

Vecino Construction will serve as both project and general contractor, and WGI is the project engineer.
