The future looks bright for AISD with $15M solar panel grant

AUSTIN –The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded Austin ISD a $15 million grant for solar panels to be installed in 16 campuses.

Austin ISD is the only school district in the state to receive this grant. They currently have solar energy at 14 locations. Those panels can produce two megawatts of energy, which is enough to power about 230 homes.

This is a five-year project. Once negotiations with the Department of Energy are complete, the district can expect to see the first round of rooftop solar panels up and running in late 2025.
