SA-owned Santikos Theaters gains 250 new screens

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio-based Santikos Theater has acquired The Grand Theatres and AmStar Cinemas from VSS-Southern Theatres LLC, a New York-based private equity company, a deal they have been pursuing since 2018.

The deal includes 17 theaters across the southeast United States—more than 250 screens and four IMAX venues altogether.

Tim Handren, CEO of Santikos, said they currently operate ten theaters housing 121 screens in the greater San Antonio market.

“Based on screen count, we will be the eighth-largest circuit in North America,” said Handren.

Barton Benson Jones PLLC represented Santikos in the acquisition. VSS-Southern Theatres, backed by VSS Capital Partners, received financial advice from Solomon Partners and was represented by Ropes & Gray LLP and Jones Walker LLP.
