Beer garden, museum slated for historic Katy rice-dryer site

​​KATY – The historic J.V. Cardiff & Sons Rice Dryer property at 5321 First St. is being redeveloped.

The 177-ft-tall rice-drying structure is the tallest building in and around Katy. It is considered a historic landmark.

Phase one redevelopment of The Dryer includes the construction of a beer garden, museum, and gift shop on the first floor of the tallest rice dryer.

The Katy Beer Garden will have 15,000 sf of outside space beneath 45-ft oak trees and a 10,000-sf building with a main bar and a cocktail nook, seating about 200.

The beer garden is slated for completion within two months.

The next phase will include a restaurant inside the silos on the property, a walkway, and 18,000 sf of surrounding turf.

Also planned for a future phase is a three-story, 33,000-sf building with a food hall on the first floor, coworking space on the second, and event space on the top floor.​
