AUSTIN – Plans have been circulating since 2020 to expand the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) race track to achieve a higher “family entertainment” status, namely through the COTA Land amusement park.
However, COTA Land will not open in 2023 as planned. Chairman, Bobby Epstein, said production and shipping delays on equipment and parts have pushed back the project deadline significantly.
Progress continues, however, as COTA broke ground this month on the park’s T-11 Car Condo community, which is set to open in about nine months. The condos will reach up to 6,000 sf.
Execs have announced the park is set to include 30 rides ranging in thrill-level. There are at least three roller coasters planned—one of which, The Texas Wildcat, is currently operational in the track’s grand plaza. Ten kids rides and a few family rides are currently available during major events at the park as well.
An updated site plan is currently under review. The plan details how work will start with two amusement rides with associated improvements totaling 341,510 sf of construction on 7.8 acres.
As for the rest of the project, officials said future concepts “will fall in line” with their continued goal of building out the park.
