SA 'Smart Cities' system unveiled as solution to city infrastructure problems

SAN ANTONIO – Smart Cities San Antonio, an initiative of the city’s Office of Innovation, has unveiled a new strategic road map to better use data and technology in public works to enhance its services and quality of life for citizens.

The road map outlines areas of concern for the city’s residents, such as access to public information, public safety, safe infrastructure, resilience and environmental quality, and access to transportation.

The initiative is meant to serve as a front door to city government. Citizens can reach out to Smart Cities through its website to share ideas toward solving public issues.

The city works with vendors on a short-term and a small scale before deciding whether to invest in a large-scale solution to issues. Area businesses that could contribute to Smart Cities’ stated goal of advanced improving city infrastructure and services are invited to do so.

Smart Cities also manages the SmartSA Partnership, which includes the San Antonio Water System and Opportunity Home San Antonio, to ensure data is handled responsibly and shared openly in accordance with all relevant laws and regulations.
