Solar energy plant to bring more power to Panhandle homes in 2026

EARTH – Xcel Energy has released plans to add a solar-generating facility at Plant X Generating Station in Earth, on the outskirts of Lubbock.

Plant X will have three large solar generating facilities with a 150-megawatt capacity, which would provide enough solar energy to power almost 25,000 average Xcel customer homes.

The goal is to supplement power and support the local workforce while keeping customers’ bills lower and protecting natural resources.

Further details on the solar technology and process for building will be released later this summer after proposals to regulators. The plant is expected to open in 2026 at the earliest.
