SAN ANTONIO – Three years after the pandemic began, hotels downtown and near San Antonio International Airport continue to struggle with bookings, according to a report by local hotel consulting firm Source Strategies.
The city’s hotel market had a 61.6 percent occupancy rate in first quarter 2023, higher than last year’s 60.5 percent but behind 2019’s 66.7 percent.
Despite the lower occupancy rate, hotels across the city generated $411.7 million in the first quarter, up 13.4 percent from the same period last year and 15.7 percent from the same period in 2019.
The average daily room rate was $131.36, up 8.2 percent from 2022 and 13.8 percent from 2019, while revenue per available room reached $80.92, a bump of 10.2 percent and 5 percent from those same years.
Source Strategies Senior VP Paul Vaughn said the city posted the smallest increases in revenue and the number of room nights sold among Texas’ major metropolitan areas.
