Across America, 21 percent of people declared themselves to be self-storage users in 2022. Another 15 percent said they intend to use it in the future.
Shrinking apartment size contributes to the growing need for extra space. Roughly 40 percent of current storage users cite lack of space at home as the primary reason for renting self-storage. Furniture is the most common item stored outside the home.
