HOUSTON – Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corp. has completed the first dredging project in the Houston Ship Channel’s Project 11.
The first phase, which included the expansion of an 11.5-mile section of Galveston Bay, is expected to help increase safety, reduce congestion, and improve vessel transit times by reducing daylight restrictions.
The $1 billion, 52-mile expansion project will deepen and widen the ship channel to up to 700 ft wide to reduce congestion and improve vessel transit times.
Project 11 is funded by Port Houston and federal funds.
Completion is slated for 2025.
