Work kicks off on The Brick and Mortar District

​​​KYLE – Momark Development, the city, and Cardinal MF LLC have started on the first phase of The Brick and Mortar District. 

​Formerly known as Uptown, the 138-acre mixed-use urban village is within the Plum Creek master-planned community. At full build-out, it will have 2,500 homes, 150,000 sf of retail, 250,000 sf of office space, and 35 acres of parkland and trails.

The 21-acre first phase will have:

  • T​​​he Brick and Mortar Apartments, a mixed-use building featuring 300 apartments, two pools, an 8,000-sf wellness and fitness center, and 7,000 sf of ground-floor retail, restaurant, and co-working space; 

  • Heroes Memorial Park, which will have a large pond and pedestrian boardwalk, memorial garden, activity lawn, water features, and educational installments​​ across five acres; 

  • La Verde at The Brick and Mortar District, a 1.6-acre park with an event lawn for gatherings of up to 2,200 people, performance pavilion, market spaces, interactive water features, volleyball court, dog run, and playground; and

  • Cultural Trail, a shaded 1,200-ft pedestrian and bike trail connecting Heroes Memorial, La Verde park, and the main retail street in the District. The first 400 linear feet will be built in the first phase.

Phase one opens in March 2022.

Future phases—including a 29-acre regional soccer complex and park as well as a hotel and convention center—will take approximately eight years to complete.

Funded through a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone, the city will invest $13 million to build the park and trail amenities.​
