COLLEGE STATION – In the eight months ending in December 2020, Texas recovered 909,500 of the 1.4 million jobs it lost in March and April.
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the state gained 64,200 nonfarm jobs last month, marking eight consecutive months of job growth.
“The state’s labor market needs to gain around 502,600 jobs in the coming months to return to pre-pandemic levels,” said Texas Real Estate Research Center Research Economist Dr. Luis Torres.
Even after Texas experienced a strong upsurge in COVID-19 infection rates in December, the labor market gained jobs as no statewide restrictions were imposed.
Leisure and hospitality, one of the sectors hit hardest by the pandemic, added 6,300 jobs over the month and continued with its recovery.
