MIDLAND – COVID-19 and low energy prices impacted the local labor market, pushing unemployment from 10.2 percent in April to 12.4 percent in May.
The unemployment rate is ten times May 2019’s rate.
Odessa also saw its unemployment rate rise from 13.7 percent in April to 16.5 percent.
However, there are signs of recovery, as the Texas Workforce Commission reported a rise in Midland’s labor force in May.
