WACO – The local unemployment rate jumped amid layoffs and furloughs associated with the COVID-19 outbreak.
Unemployment rose from 3.3 percent in February to 4.5 percent by mid-March.
The Texas Workforce Commission estimates that the number of people employed in the metro has dropped by 3,166 to 120,119 jobs. Employment fell by 1,357 jobs year over year.
Waco’s unemployment rate placed it in the middle of the pack among metro areas statewide.
