WASHINGTON – Austin-Round Rock is second on WalletHub’s list of the best metro areas for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) professionals.
The Texas Capital ranks fourth in professional opportunities, 12th in quality of life, and 27th in STEM-friendliness.
Austin is also third in highest quality of engineering universities and fifth in highest percentage of workforce in STEM.
Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington and Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land are the only other Texas metros in the top 40, ranking 34th and 37th, respectively. The latter is second in the highest annual median wage for STEM workers.

To determine the best markets for STEM professionals, WalletHub compared the 100 largest metro areas across 19 key metrics.
Earlier this month, Austin was named the fifth-best city for jobs in 2022.
