Midland unemployment falls to 9.6 percent in June

​MIDLAND – Unemployment fell significantly in June as the local economy started picking back up. 

The metro’s unemployment rate fell 3 percent month over month to 9.6 percent. Last June, ​unemployment was 2.1 percent. 

Odessa reported an unemployment rate of 13 percent, the highest among Texas metros. Amarillo reported the lowest at 6 percent. 

Statewide, unemployment sits at 8.6 percent.
